60i to 24p
 

I'm sure this has been covered before but I can't seem to find any clear instructions on how to do this? Right now I have raw 60i footage and I would like to make it 24p. I don't even know where to start. I've heard cinema tools might be able to do this?

Your NLE should be able to do it. There's no way that I know of to convert in the camera.

Yeah I mean in the NLE. I have final cut

I've tried it in both Premier Pro and Sony Vegas. Generally I found sticking with 60i gave better results. It is sharper and the conversion to 24p results in noticeable blurring and strobing if there is any motion faster then the slowest of slow. I try to be very slow and deliberate with camera movement, but even the wave of a hand by someone in the scene is terrible. Maybe someone knows some special trick settings to apply? Good Luck

Red Giant/Magic Bullet has an FCP plugin. I've never tried it, but their other products are great and there is a trial download.

Now I read that 24f is not that great in slow motion. So would it be better ultimately to shoot in 60i then convert to 24p?

I shoot in 30P at all time.
Or you can shoot in 60i and de-interlace (or export with no filed order) when you export.
If I need to export it out to 24P, I do it @ Media Encoder.
I use PP, so am not sure 100% how to do it in FC.
If you search a bit in there, I am sure you will find some answers.
I stop using 24P because there are lots of fast movement during prep on the weddings and I do lots of pan and tilt.
Just my personal pref, that's all.
I do know 24P looks different ( in a good way), but I convert them at exporting process.

I have the Magic Bullet plugin (called Magic Bullet Frames) and I have been pretty happy with the 60i -> 24p results.
