Glide 4000 Pro or Merlin

I am trying to figure out which one is better for the XHA1S , the Glidecam 4000 Pro or the Merlin. Please send me your thoughts.

Thanks,

Hi Eric,

I have the Glidecam 4000 and use it with my XHA1. I have never used Merlin but let me tell you, using the Glidecam is FUN!!! but heavy you need to get the vest for the long shots.

Having used both with the A1, here is my quick pro/con list:

Glidecam

Pro - better match for A1 size, more stable in wind, can be set down on ground for shots or to rest, can be held up high for crane shots, upside down for low shots, can be held against body for traditional shooting.

Con - handle is not in direct line with weight of camera which puts strain on wrist without vest, slower to balance, less refined, gimble does not isolate movement as well as Merlin.

Merlin

Pro - superior gimble design, hand in direct line with weight of camera so no twisting force on wrist, earier to balance and adjust, more refined.

Con - a little small for loaded A1, more easily affected by wind, hard to put camera down when attached, hard to shoot anything except flying shots (high, low, monopod, etc).

Overall, for my style of shooting, I would be willing to give up the better design of the Merlin for the versatility of the Glidecam.

Have fun,

Lloyd

Thanks. I appreciate the input . Looks like I'll go with the Glidecam 4000.
