Please show the entire image...

...in the viewfinder and on the screen. The Sony A1U has an all-scan feature that shows the entire image being captured. I've heard the H1 only shows 90-95%

While we're at it -- add custom speeds for the zoom/focus preset feature or at least a slower option.

Two excellent points, Paul... I guess time will tell soon enough...

Hey, another guy from Idaho! Whereabouts, Paul?

"All-scan".......yes, that would be great!

Chris Hurd July 26th, 2006 08:30 PM

Lorinda I thought you were living in your own private Idaho.

If these things have all-scan, it'll be a first for Canon. Gotta find this out for sure.

Hmm... B52s: “living...underground like a wild potato” or Van Sant: “Whatever, wherever, have a nice day.” --I’ll go with the movie, I guess. ;)

Got to thinkin’ maybe it would be best for old Canon-only shooters like me if they left the scan alone. No more taking into account the overscan in the color viewfinder? I can’t even imagine!

FWIW, the all scan feature on the Z1 is very handy but not a panacea. When you switch to that mode there's a pretty wide black border all around the outside of the image, so you waste a lot of pixels from the precious few that are on the LCD. I guess they did this to make it obvious you were in all scan mode? But you definitely need to toggle it on and off constantly. Turn all-scan on to check framing, turn it off to check focus. It would have actually been nicer just to always have the camera in all-scan mode and have it fill the entire LCD screen instead of wasting all those black pixels. Then they could provide a function with markers for normal overscanning TV's.
