Existing GL2 Lense filters?
 

I have had my Canon GL2 for a few years and would be very interested in geting a XH A1 as a replacement and to step into the world of HD for my business. I was wondering if my existing lense filters for my GL2 would fit the same lense size as the XH's, my guess is no but I had to ask before I sell them.

Sorry, the the size of the filters on the new cameras is 72mm, the same as the XL1, XL1s, XL2, XL H1.

I believe the GL1/GL2 filters were 58mm.

That answers my question, thanks much. Now all that's left is to wait for the release date of these badboys, too bad it isn't sooner then later.

I am very pleased with the XL H1.

Before I purchased the XL H1, I was expecting problems in two areas.

1. Low light sensitivity. The XL H1, and thus the new cameras should also, have very good low light capabilities. This is an improvement over the XL1s.

2. The ability of the camera and HDV to handle fast motion. I have not had any problems so far. I was able to film waterfalls, fast moving water, and professional drag boat racing without any noticable problems so far.

It sure seems that Canon has a hit in these two cameras.

Schneider Optics 1.6x Tele-Converter?
 

Will the Schneider Optics 1.6x XL Tele-Converter fit on these new Canon cameras or will it, e.g., inferfere with the AF?

Anything that covers or blocks the passive Infrared sensor (the Instant Autofocus sensor beside the lens) will interfere only with the Instant Autofocus function.

Since the Instant Autofocus function can be turned off as an option in the menu system, the camera can rely on the traditional autofocus function, but it is assumed that the autofocus will then be similar to the XL H1 autofocus in responsiveness.

Dan's right, you can put any 72mm attachment on the front (the old GL series was 58mm, sorry), just be sure whether the attachment is SD or HD. Yes it will block the Instant AF sensor, but you still have "normal" AF as a fall back.
