LCD/VF Resolution
 

Is there any information available on the LCD/VF resolution on the G1/A1? I understand that there's a 2.8" LCD and a .57" VF, but is that all we know? Any focus assist technology? Having a usable autofocus will certainly help, but a low-res LCD is still a major challenge for HD documentary field work.

The two XH camcorders are identical in these respects. The 2.8" flip-out LCD display has 269,000 pixels. The .57" EVF LCD display has 269,000 pixels as well. It is possible to have both displays on at the same time. Both are switchable from color to monochrome.

Just like the XL H1, both XH camcorders have dual focus assist features in the form of peaking and magnification. These controls are clearly visible on the camera body in the photos on my site; see http://www.dvinfo.net/canonxh/articles/images2.php -- seventh image down, click on it to see a bigger version. Can anyone explain what peaking is? And how exactly does magnification work - ie does it magnify the whole viewfinder image to 1:1 pixel size, or just the center of the image, or ..? Do these work well on the H1?

Peaking is an artifical edge enhancement that adds a sharp line around all objects in the field of view. Magnification is a 2x blow up of the middle of the frame. Consult our XL H1 forum for more info and plenty of user feedback on these features.

so that's a significant bump up from the hvx, which i believe is 210,000 pixels, and a slight bump up from the z1u.

Is it just me or does the eyecup on the A1/G1 looks small? I wish the eyecup was bigger like on the Panasonic DVX or HVX so that you can better shield your shooting eye from stray sunlight. Does anyone else think this may be a problem?

Hoping accurate focus is possible
 

It's not the eyecup size, it 's the vf's Magnification size that really matters. --This assuming Canon hasn't made it too hard to fit a larger eyecup to it...
