Obviously I'm not letting them use it full-time, only occassionally.

I'm asking because I'm also considering the Sony V1U, which appears to be a much lighter cam, according to the weight specs...

Thanks for any thoughts on this subject. :D

read my post - "its too small.."

No actually my wife loves this camera and thinks its a perfect weight.. but she was using the 12lb XL2 before (and she's petiete.. 5,6 105 lb)

Do I think its too big for women & children.. well no.. but that depends on the outlook, what your comparing it too, and the women & children that will be using it :)

Best to wait and see.. go to a local DV expo or shop where they will be demo-ing the cameras your interested in.

I'm a 15-year-old male, average build, and the camera wasn't too heavy for me; although, holding it 1-handed for about 15 minutes was a little tiresome.

I'd be too afraid to hand that camera to anyone younger than 15.

my next, next door neighbor just bought his son a spanking new Mercedes CLK500...not sure how much that thing costs, but gotta be more than 50 grand, right? the kid just turned 16 last week. Needless to say, I'm green with envy. When I turned 16, half a century ago, I did get spanking new wheels... in the form of a human-powered two wheel bike...

The guy at the store trusted me pretty well... or maybe he didn't and was thinking about his commission salary.

I envy the kids today. There are so many cool gadgets out there. :) When I was a kid at that age, I didn't even know what a computer was... and the phones were all rotary-dial.(you know, the kind of phone that requires some strength in your fingers)

Unfortunately no kids in my area are as interested in the same "cool gadgets" as I am.
