Slightly Blurry on 25F mode????
 

I have been doing some tests with my new G1 and have settled on some preferred custom presets (2,12,15) but whilst on 25F instead of 50i there seems to be more than usual blurring of the image. I have always used progressive/de-inrelacing on my footage and this doesn't look like that. It is more like a soft ghosting/blurring.

When I turn on the exposure lock in auto it shows the shutter is 1/25. Could this be causing it? Should this be set on 1/50? I know i can set this as a priority so it isn't a problem, but I haven't been able to do any more tests as yet and wondered if anyone else could shed any light? Could it be down to a clash with the custom preset???

Sebastian, yes, the blurring you see is probably due to the long exposure time of 1/25. Switch to normal shutter speed (1/50) and test it again.

It seems to switch to 1/25 from 1/50 once you change from 50i to 25f. Is 1/25 supposed to be the optimum for this mode because it looks a bit pap? Is there any way of changing this preset in the auto mode or is it a Tv mode then adjust each time you want to use this progressive effect?

1/50 does seem to clear it up (on the cameras lcd at least) so I shall do some more testing tomorrow. I was sure I'd seen some posts where others had used 1/25 with really good results but I could be wrong.

Yes, unfortunately the default shutter speed in 25F mode /TV mode is 1/25. You have to switch to 1/50 manually every time you go back to 25F and/or to TV mode.

1/25 is the optimum in terms of gain - but not in terms of sharpness of image or film-like look.

It may also help if you are using ND filter (I or II) so the A1 can use larger aperture which helps for sharpness...
