What audio gear do you have for your A1?

...What audio gear do you have for your A1?

I've been researching for the past two days for a shotgun mic for the A1 I'm going to order. It would be an "all around" and "on the go" type mic, I assume the internal mic is... not so great.

For planned sit down interviews I'll have the Lavalier mics and for some of the concert stuff I do I will just be hooking into the mixer. So I just need something for the rest of the time.

I've looked at the Sennheiser ME66 and the Rode NTG-2. Is there anything else I should consider? I don't want to spend too much because it will dip into the savings for the wireless setup I want in a couple months.

Thanks for the help.

There are a couple of Audio Technica shotgun mics lots of people around here use. I don't remember the numbers. One is about $600, and the other is less.

Oktava

I use an Oktava MK012 with the hyper cap usually on.
It works great for me, and really inexpensive.

I use the ME64 which is much better indoors than the 66 (the 66 is all but worthless inside). I like it a lot. Though everyone on these boards is ga-ga over the audio technica and rode videomics.

I use a Sennheiser MKH 418 (MS-Stereo) giving me a precise Mono signal (like the Sennheiser MKH 416) while leaving the option to go Stereo in post (if useful).

I am using the AT897, probably the cheapest Audio Technica out there but it sounds good to me and people I do video for :)

Josh, how do you like the 11" size of the AT897 on the A1? A good match or a hair too large for the A1? Videomaker just did a review (Feb/07) of this mic and and gave it excellent marks. A picture of yours possibly. Thanks.

I like it so far. I have mainly been using it attached to a poll but it works nicely I think attached with the shockmount I got from B&H. The Mic mount that came with the A1 is too big to hold it, plus I have to remove 2 screws in order to put away the camera in my case.

I think the AT4043a is the mic for $500 people here are alluding to. gets consistent rave reviews. It's a shotgun.

Alesis ADAT HD-24, Phonic MR2443 mixing board, M-Audio Microtrack (when traveling light), Røde NT5 mics, large diaphragm condenser mics, boundary mics, a suitcase full with XLR and patch cables, Phonic spectrum analyser, mic stands and clamps, and a few odd things I probably forgot about.

Oh. So you just want a shotgun. Shotgun mics always sound a bit strange (because the directivity depends on frequency... it has to) and are very sensitive to wind. If you really don't want to spend too much, Thomann has some chinese copies which do not sound much worse than the original and are very, very cheap.

Thomann also has a chinese boundary mic which is way better than any Lavallier mics for planned sit down interviews, BTW.

Thanks for the photos Josh. Gives perspective.
