Night Soccer Game Video
 

Shot some local High School soccer with my A1 and thought I would share the footage with you. Filmed in 60i and compressed with Windows media 9 to 720 30FPS and de-interlaced. It was raining out the whole time so what appears to be a little noise in some of the black areas is actually rain which is much clearer in the uncompressed version.

I actually think that is quite impressive with the amount of fast pans and action in the scenes, considering HDV and compression. Might I ask what editor software you use?

And also, do you think it came out so well because you shot in 60i as opposed to say 30F? Would there have been a big difference in quality between 60i and 30F? Thanks!

I think the 60i is better for sports but I personally haven't tried 30F for them so I cant give you a good answer. Next time I goto an event where I can tool around Ill try 30F and post that as well. I use Adobe Premiere 2.0 for my video needs :)

Hey Josh, thanks for the response... I too use Adobe Premiere Pro 2.0 and really like it? Do you edit the mpeg file natively or do you use Cineform Aspect HD? Right now I do native editing and thus far, it works great, however I am still trying to figure out a good workflow so I can use dynamic link w/ AE quickly.

Your PP2.0 file that is captured is .mpeg, right? Not the .m2t file extension.

I use the native Adobe capture as well and my videos are in .mpeg format.

Boy thanks for the info Josh... always nice to talk to someone who has a very similar setup. Have you done any native mpeg work in After Effects 7? From the few tests I have run thus far, AE7 bogs down substantially with my mpeg files, eventhough I am running the new QX6700 quad-core intel with 4GB ram and a dedicated 10k scratch drive. Have you noticed the same?

No I haven't really tried to do a whole lot with After Effects with HDV but I remember it was a beast with DV so I imagine its even worse with HDV. Im rendering out some sample video of the swim meet I was just at (no 30F :() Might post that, If so I might need Chris to do a thread merge into a singular Sports Video Sample Thread or something :-p

The game? I have no problem with that. The third goal was fantastic and thanks to rain we could see that belly slide. Nice footage, 5 goals including penalty, who can complain? :)

what presets were you using? looks nice

I used the Premiere 2.0 WM9 HDTV 720 5.1 preset and drop the audio down to 2 chan. nothing fancy.

sorry - should have been more clear.. I was really asking about the camera, e.g. noise reduction, gamma, etc.

Ahh, I haven't even really gotten into all the advanced features that this camera offers yet. (I still have to learn what each one actually does to the picture) So everything is @ the factory defaults. While shooting I was using Manual Mode with Gain @ +3db and a low fstop
