Here's a shot from one of yesterday's setups on the documentary I'm doing with the A-1. I got a better monitor that does 16x9, and think I'm getting a little better w/exposure, though I'll probably correct this some. There's a learning curve with exposure and this camera, to a degree, but overall I'm liking it:

Gives it a little bit of warmth. Also, I'm asking participants to wear solid colors, no solid white or pastels, obviously lighting them in front of a black backdrop. Shooting Tues/Wed/Thursday of next week, and doing some B-roll, have to deliver this project toward the end of March...

It looks great, what is the subject matter, the only thing if I could add would be some CU profile shots, Regards, Oleg:)

Did you do these settings while they were there, or you prepared everything before !!! it looks as if it was done for them !!!!

Wow Jeff! I saw your other interview shots, and this one looks amazing. The lighting was much much better, and the exposure was great. It even looked like you moved the background away from the subjects. To me that just makes the subjects "pop" a lot more

Thanks guys. Nick, this was a bigger room to work in than the first day's shots, plus I had the benefit of learning about the exposure from the first day. I used 1000 watt key rather than the 500 I'd used before, made a difference. Also had a better broadcast monitor 16x9 to work with, and took time to balance bars before shoot this time.

Amr, I experimented with different settings before that session, and I took elements from a couple of the presets I liked, and came up with this one, and I'm satisfied with the results.

Oleg, this is a documentary about the two founders of a summer camp that over years grew into a large successful private school in the LA area. There's a big event in April to honor these guys and fundraise, which is where this will be shown. Regarding CU shots of interview subjects, if that's what you mean, there'll be a fair amount of b-roll once the interviews are put together, so hopefully can keep it visually interesting throughout.

I loved the look. What monitor are you using?

Was this handheld or on sticks? It looked handheld for the first few seconds and then there were solid pans. Good mix to keep it form being just talking heads.

Sound was also well done. Love that NY accent!

I'm using the Sony PVM-14L5 14-inch monitor, which does a very nice job with this camera. see:

Here's what the basic setup looked like, for those interested. Had a 1000w lightbox camera right, and a 500w box cam left, rim light, kicker from lower cam right and nothing on the black bg.

Excellent lighting on the talent, really worked well. Im not a fan of black backgrounds.
