Maybe you guys are getting tired of these...

David McGiffert March 30th, 2007 09:58 AM

Steven,

No...not tired of good shots...

David

Tired? No way. Keep 'em coming!

Eric Weiss March 30th, 2007 10:24 AM

Steven, can you up a full res still shot taken with the a1?
i'd really love to see one.

Here's one from the other day but keep in mind that this is not an actual still taken with the camera. It's a frame exported from Premiere's timeline and then it is resized (from 1440 to 1920) and saved as a jpeg but you can get the general idea.

Eric Weiss March 30th, 2007 11:00 AM

very nice! thank you.
im always impressed by your framing.

the card option on canons usually produce a more "photo like" still than a screen cap. do you find that to be the case with the a1?

Steven Dempsey March 30th, 2007 11:01 AM

Don't know because I never use the still capture on the camera.

Eric Weiss March 30th, 2007 11:08 AM

ahh. well, not the still to tape. thats useless.
however, the still to card can be quite nice.

Steven Dempsey March 30th, 2007 11:11 AM

Yeah, I know what you are talking about but I just don't have a need to use it. I'm either going to be a videographer or a photographer but not both right now. :)

Bogdan Tyburczy March 30th, 2007 11:25 AM

Nice shots - thanks Steven.

Here is some test in Photo Mode I did with Canon 580EX flash:

http://mysite.verizon.net/vze58h83/

Still photo quality is slightly better than HDV stills, but both can be very useful. Front covers of many newspapers feature photos of lower quality than XH A1/G1 or XL-H1 can deliver, if only one captures that golden moment in a game, for example.

Eric Weiss March 30th, 2007 11:43 AM

Thanks Bogdan, that's nice. Very crisp!
I too use the 580, mostly on a 20D..but I've actually
had stills published from the GL-2...very samll shots.. but still nice.

If something is nicely framed, I always take a photo.

To me, the A-1 is sold. I'm buying one right now.

You won't regret it, my man

Eric Weiss March 30th, 2007 11:51 AM

I'm sure I won't. I've never had regret about any Canon product.
It was actually the HDV codec and workflow that bothered me.

I feel like I should just wait until a true "prosumer" HDCAM hits the market.
You know it will..and not some ripoff P2 BS.

Steven, that's sooo beautiful!! Like Eric said, can you upload the full res version of it?

My hopes of not buying the A1 (and instead go for the HV20) are dwindling with every day...

Steven could probably do just as good a job with the HV20. It's not the tools......
