Anyone using After Effects successfully?
Hi everyone,
I'm having trouble rendering in After Effects. My finished clips alias horribly. I can render out of Final Cut Pro fine. I'm capturing via Final Cut Pro with it's HDV preset, 24 frames a second. It converts the clips into an uncompressed quicktime. No problems there. But in after effects 6.5 there is no HDV preset (7.0 has one) When I make a composition out of the clip it gives me the following parameters. 1920x1080 1.33:1 Non-square Pixel Aspect Ratio frame rate: 23.976 and when I render I don't change the frame rate or size. Nor do I interlace, I render in frames. My final renders have aliasing problems on all vertical lines within the scene. Any ideas? ...thanks Win |

I had the same issue for a while. It makes a big difference how and where you do your conversion. My best results, after a lot of exporting and checking frame on frame results was the following:
-capture with fcp your hdv 24p (DVHSCAP is also great but no log) -convert to AIC or dvcpro or whatever using compressor (you can batch and it keeps timecode, mpgstreamclip won't) - use that converted file in after effects (it usually interprets the footage as interlaced, you have to go into interpret footage and change that) -Render using the same codec (I use aic and make sure to chose the progressive and 24p) |
sadly ive not used fcp + afx together as im a pc man
BUT in after effects i always use 1920x1080 SQUARE pixels 24fps and if the footage is interlaced make sure you select UPPER fields first Best of luck |
