ZooCast

Last week I took a job as a cameraman in a zoo. (To built my experience with my A1 and I love to watch animals)

I have almost no experience with filming animals, but I took a chance and went to the zoo. Showed them some video material and they accepted me for the job. Now I am experimenting with a Podshow account. Making a ZooCast.

Here is the URL to watch a small test video. Just some footage rendered as a MP4 file in Studio 11.

Oh and for those who saw or heard the news about that escaped gorilla in the Rotterdam Zoo...they don't have them overhere. I checked first. Although they have two weird jobs in the next few weeks: making movies about (big) snakes and they also have a fun project called: CSI Zoo. (Soon to be released just behind CSI Miami, CSI New York and all those other series). ;-)

Looks nice... Not very familiar with those animals... Were you using the VIVID RGB preset? Might try a more stable tripod / head combo... Little bit of jitter that distracted from the raccoon / monkey / skunk animal creatures... : )

Hi Doug,

Thanks for the tip. This was a quick tryout to see what range the lens of the camera has. I did make the mistake of sitting in the back so people could walk in front of the camera (you can see that in one second in the movie).

The tripod is pretty stable, but because of the room I could not spread it's three legs at that moment. But from now on I can go in to parts of the zoo where the people can not stand in front of the camera. They have made it clear: try to make video's without fences and cages.

Oh, and I would not think of going in to a cage with any dangerous animals. Maybe, someday, there will be a Steve Irwin kind of guy to do that for me and visit the alligators.

Ah almost forgot: yep, Vivid RGB.

This is the WMV version of the video, it's better than the MP4 version.

Hmmmm....strange. The video is also not working from my websites.

I send an email to the hosting company. Asking some questions. Until then, please watch the file in the first message.

Thanks,

Gert

The footages especially the ones in the tree could pass off for National Geographic ;) The XHA1 looks good with animals.

I was drinking something and nearly spilled it out when the part with the mammal laying back and exposing its bits came on. Had the same thing happen to me when I took photographs of orang utan.

Hi Chan Ee Jien,

The A1 sertainly does look good with animals. And that's what i'm going to do tomorow: making new recordings in de zoo.

I'm filming all special things in the zoo right now. As a volunteer. Tomorow they are going to start up a new project: CSI ZOO.
A bird has been killed and the kids (and their parrents) have to find out what happend. Was it the bear who did it? Or the gorilla? First episode, only on ZooCast! ;-)

But for serious: thanks for the compliments. I hope I can make much more of these recordings. Animals are funny to watch now and then.
