Trouble Downconverting

Two issues. First of all, my XH-A1 automatically starts up Vegas when I plug in the firewire..but I don't want this to happen! I must have clicked on the 'do this from now on' in Windows XP. I can't find a way to undo this. Pulling out my hair (not much left), so please help if you can. I already tried going through the device manager and Canon DV camera properties, but have no options other than testing the device.
Second. I was able to downconvert in -camera and edit through Premiere Pro 2.0 yesterday, but today, every time I plug in the Firewire connection, the option to downconvert gets greyed out on the "Signal Setup" menu. It might be related to the first problem. Anyone have a clue?

This happened to me once, you have to have the firewire cable unplugged when making that selection on the A1... so with it unplugged, the option shouldn't be greyed out.
