Strobe effect downconverting HDV slowmotion to SD?

I have used FCP and Canon A1 HDV 50i footage that I have captured and edited in HDV 1080i50, downconverted to 4:3 SD DV-PAL and produced Quicktimefiles. The result looked fine, looked a bit progressive, but the slowmotionparts looked like strobed and was not usable. Why is that and any idea for solution?

Thanks Erik

Final cut pro does very bad slowmotions.

I tend to think FCP does slow motion very well. Often people think our slow mo was done with a third party plugin.

The new version of FCP solves the problem your talking about automatically.

To solve the problem now, I would downconvert using compressor, which worked very well for me. You can also try creating a new SD timeline in FCP, dropping your whole project in ther enad then applying a shift fields filter (as the field dominance is different in Hd than for Sd, which I belive is the causee of the strobing.)

I shot and edited this clip in Hd and donconverted to SD using compressor. There is some slow mo in there, some of it as slow as 35%, and I think it looks great.

Patrick, that clip was amazing!

What 35mm adapter are you using and with what lenses? Also, what type of camera stabilizer are you using?

Hi Adam,

The clip was shot with a steadicam flyer and the 35mm adapter is the brevis. I have some even better footage that I shot with it over at their forum on cinevate.com
