Anyone used this LANC, preferably with XL 2? How do you rate it?

Anybody else with experience of other currently available LANC Remote Controllers for use with XL 2?

A few questions please. For a start I'm confused by this statement at the end of the blurb about Jessops LANC Controller ...

"It provides controls for auto focus on/off, photo mode, record start/stop. Power on/off, zoom in/zoom out, search backward/search forward.
Note, this unit does not support VTR mode – "

1. Should VTR mode read VCR mode, or what is VTR mode?
2. What justifies the price difference between Jessops and Manfrotto 522?
3. Am I right in thinking that one of your ideal combinations would be Manfrotto 523 Lanc and 503 head?
4. Have you used extension cable on your Lanc and does it interfere with performance?

Hi Brendan. I'm not Daniel, but I 've been using a Manfrotto remote arm for years with Sony and Canon cameras so thought I'd chime in.

The Manfrotto remote arm replaces the pan handle of your tripod, or in my case, I kept the original arm and moved it to the left so I have a dual arm setup-up that is very controllable for slow pans and long telephoto shots. It works very well with a 503 head (which is what I have). The Jessop remote needs to be mounted somewhere, I don't have experience of that. I doubt the Manfrotto is really worth the additional cost, but it is very convenient and anyway I don't think the Jessop was around when I bought my Manfrotto remote so in my case I didn't really have much of a decision to make.

Like Richard mentioned the Manfrotto remote arm replaces the pan handle of your tripod. Also, not the least the Manfrotto arm is adjustable which mean you can have at the lenght if fits best in which situation you will be filming.This feature has been very helpfull for me.

No doubt that I feel the 523 was worth. I like the ability to choose the speed of the zoom. This is my favorite feature. The only thing I really miss is being able to adjust the iris. That would have been the cherry on the cake.

I own Canon cameras and one Manfrotto 523 is good enough. As per the head I like the fluidity of the 503 but this is not essential. I have been filming with 501 heads for many years and always enjoyed it.

It was really a question of time for me. I was lucky enough to have a good deal on ebay where I've bought an excellent package which included: a xL1s, a 3x Canon wide angle lens, a 522 Manfrotto LANC, a 525MV manfrotto tripod with a carrying case and a 503 head.

Not being that I would not have bought on my own the 503 head and the 525MV tripod. However, today I would say that after experiencing that equipment I would not hesitate one second to invest in this. If not, I would make sure to look for a deal on ebay.
