XL2 Crop Factor

As all you guys know, the Canon EF Adapter XL is used to connect any Canon EF lens to the XL2 camcorder.

According to the instruction booklet of the EF Adapter the focal lenght of the connected EF lens will increase 7.2 times (35mm equivalent). However, in the handbook of the XL2 (page 115) the focal length of EF lenses connected to the PAL version of the XL2 will increase by 9.4 times.

When I connect the 100-400mm IS USM lens to the XL2 the immage looks as if I am using a 5000mm lens.

My question is: What is the actual crop factor of the XL2 coupled with an EF lens??

Thank you guys.

7.2 was the factor for the older XL1 and XL1S.

On the XL2 it is 7.8 in the 4:3 aspect ratio and 9.6 in the 16:9 aspect ratio (for NTSC models).

Oops -- correction: On the XL2 it is 9.6 in the 4:3 aspect ratio and 7.8 in the 16:9 aspect ratio (for NTSC models) -- thanks Barry!

D'oh! I'm an idiot. Thinking backwards again. Too much coffee. Thanks for setting me straight, Barry!
