Cleaning lens and CCD area

Hello

question to all XL2 users. What schould you use to clean the back of the lens and the CCD area on the body?

Richard Alvarez January 29th, 2005 03:42 PM

My approach to cleaning the back of a lens is the same as the front.

1) PUFF of air, from a bulb, not a compressed air can.
2)BRUSH of camels hair brush. (Usually part of the cleaning bulb)
3)Moisturize a lens cleaning tissue with a drop of lens cleaner, swab lens in CIRCULAR fashion from center - out.

I move from 1 to 3 if the previous step doesn't clean it. Have never cleaned a ccd block... I believe what is visible is the prism in front of the block. I would do 1 and 2, but not 3 without thorough knowledge. When removing or changing lenses, if I think the block will be exposed to airborne dust or debris, I place the body cap on IMMEDIATELY after removing the lens.

Replacing the CCD block on a Canon XL2 costs $695.

I would NOT clean ANYTHING INSIDE the camera! It is far too
sensitive. As Richard said, just leave it exposed to the minimum
time possible and if there is dust around change a lens in a clean
room or car etc.
