Chris Hurd March 11th, 2005 02:03 PM

Thanks! I had no idea it was in there until I browsed through it on a magazine stand by sheer coincidence. Richard Comely did a fine job with that article.

Marco Leavitt March 11th, 2005 02:39 PM

I caught that too. It's funny -- that's the only time I think I have ever opened that magazine.

Article on XL2

Chris
Could you inform the magazine article link?

By the way, do you have a WEB links list of serious reviews on the XL2?
Thank you

Ron

Hi Ron,

What you'll generally find "out there" in the big internet is either reviews of video gear by non-video people like on CNET, or short "First Look!" type of reviews by video people who have a commercial interest in being the first on the block to push out an article -- either way these are generally superficial articles that mostly amount to restatements of manufacturer info.

Any of us can do internet searches and find those kind of reviews, but IMHO, you're never going to find more honest information than right here. For example, I just did a search on the XL2 and amongst the wealth of sales-oriented hits; I found this directory of XL2 sites:

http://main.filmexposure.org/modules...php?storyid=31

DVinfo is listed there, and it doesn't look to me like anything else there would give you better information. There just isn't much incentive for people to do stand-alone yet exhaustive, objective reviews of stuff to post on the internet. Dedicated communities of genuinely interested people like this are where the real scoop is.

Chris has a ton of great info and opinions on the XL2 Watchdog that you won't find anywhere else:

http://www.dvinfo.net/canonxl2/index.php

That's why I ended up here at DVinfo and think you're best off to honor the advice in this thread:

http://www.dvinfo.net/conf/showthrea...threadid=39849

If you have questions that aren't answered in the Watchdog or on the message boards here, just ask! Somebody probably has a REAL answer from REAL experience, not one that's been bought for web publication.

Chris Hurd March 13th, 2005 10:18 AM

Wow, excellent post there, Pete!

For Ron, the magazine's website is http://www.candcv.com/

Someday soon I'll need to modify the XL2 Watchdog's reviews page to include a list of off-site reviews. There are plenty of them on the net these days.

By the way, for those who missed out on this magazine, be sure to see my centerfold in the next issue of Vanity Fair.

Richard Alvarez March 13th, 2005 12:04 PM

Vanity Fair huh? Good thing they use a center staple in the fold, that ought to cover you...

Chris Hurd March 13th, 2005 01:53 PM

It'll be the world's smallest centerfold, no doubt about it.

Ron German March 14th, 2005 06:31 AM

Thank you all.
Ron
