Left Overs From Xl-2 if you already owned a XL1S

Hi!

I had a Canon XL1S, with lots of accessories, but I have purchased a Canon XL2. I have left over a MA-200 which no longer fits on the Canon XL2 (which makes it really front heavy!) and I had a FU-1000 so now I have the XL-2's viewfinder and obviously I have the XL1S body itself.

What did you do with your left over parts?

Sell 'em, that's what. Try our Private Classifieds.

Give them away to worthy causes.... like mine ;)

Keep the fu-1000. It's still a sharper viewfinder. I have both and never use the color.

Use the FU-1000 on your XL2 and keep the color EVF as a back up. Sell the MA-200, or if you still have the XL1, then keep it. The XL2 color EVF won't fit on the XL1, I don't think.

Hi john

If you have had a chance to plug the FU-1000 into the XL2, how to it handle 16:9, does it display correctly? I guess this is not down to the viewfinder anyway....

IMPORTANT NOTE: be sure that the camera power is off when you are plugging in, or unplugging the FU-1000 B&W viewfinder. According to Canon it can weaken, or blow the main fuse. This happened to me during a shoot and I had to send it to Canon to be fixed. It was a warranty repair, but it's still a bummer. Also be sure to turn of the power when hooking up the Firewire and for lens changes.

On the XL2, there is a separate port for the FU-1000 below the port for the color EVF. You don't need to use the battery adapter like for the XL1. You can sell it, make a necklace out of it, or keep it as a back-up for your XL1.

It displays 16x9 perfectly and shows all the viewfinder readouts incl. battery level.
