Shutter speed for shooting fast action handheld

I need to shoot some bike races in 24p and am looking for advice on how fast I can make the shutter speed. I feel pretty comfortable moving to 1/60th for 24p and still shoot handheld. Have others had success shooting at faster shutter speeds of fast action handheld without problems with picture 'jerkiness'?

Thanks,

Matt,

As I am sure you know it depends on how close you are to the action.
If you are right on top of it you will need higher shutter speeds than if you are shooting from a distance.

I did a test shoot of a Dressage rider, I was in the ring with horse and rider.
I though 1/60 would be fine which is what I shot.
When we do the real thing I use at least 1/125.

I would go out and fine some riders and shoot a test and see what will work best for you.

Bill
