Some footage from a soon to be released tour DVD of Hawaii's Big Island. Enjoy: http://www.hdvd2go.com/BigIsland_h264.html

Kalani,

Is it encoded h.264? I get a pop-up message saying Quicktime can't play the clip and the required resources are not on the server.

Boyd Ostroff July 15th, 2005 08:26 PM

I get the same error...

Very pretty scenery that's for sure.

Nice footage!!

Do you guys have the newest quicktime? I believe that is all that will play video encoded with that codec.

Patrick King July 15th, 2005 08:35 PM

Travis,

I'm not certain, but I think Q7 is still Mac only. Man I wish Quicktime and Windows Media Video would both go away in favor of platform neutral codecs.

Qt 7 H.264

QuickTime 7 Pro is now available to Windows users, so you can encode H.264 both with QuickTime or Windows Media 7 now.

Wow! The footage is awesome, nice job on the editing too... makes me want to go to Hawaii and start shooting... also makes me glad I just bought an XL2. A couple of crits would be that some of the colour saturation in just a few shots looked a bit much. Also, you might want to shorten your opening title just a bit, it kinda hangs... I use feature movies as a good gauge for how long a title should be on screen, and usually its no more than 3 seconds. I'd make your logo fade up and then the "presents" fade in below it, then fade to your title, just to speed things up a bit. Beautiful shots though, loved the aerial stuff too.. good work!

Great Job

Kalani,

Nice work. I really liked the color, pace and music. A few questions on that if you don't mind?

-Did you use any filters on your XL2?
-Do you use a matte box?
-What settings did you use on your XL2? (the setting you find when setting a preset up with things like gamma, cine, RGB's, etc.)
-What mode did you shoot in? (A, Tv, Av, M)
-Did you do any post-production altering to get such vibrant colors?

Thanks. By the way I showed a friend of mine who's going to Hawaii in August and I think he's going to show everyone he knows!

Hey Derek, thanks for the kind words.
Yes I used a PETROFF matte box with a 4x4 POLARIZER, tons of sun and glare out here.
Settings were pretty stock, I think I had the cine settings on and -5 mas ped.
I always shoot manual, and use a manual lens as well.
Yes I did a bit of SELECTIVE CC, I forget what plugin it is but it's really cool, you can simply sample any color you want to correct. Hope this helps. Aloha!
