XL2 off Canon's web site....

Anybody know why the XL2 has been removed from Canon's web site?

Richard Alvarez July 16th, 2005 05:59 PM

OKAAAAY....
That's weird.... Like something out of the twilight zone. No XL2... not even a response to a 'search' command. Maybe they are upgrading the site???

Boyd Ostroff July 16th, 2005 05:59 PM

That is weird. It only lists the GL-2 under the "professional 3 ccd" heading. However the info is still on their site here (search found it for me):

Maybe they were updating the site and messed something up?

Pete Bauer July 16th, 2005 06:13 PM

No idea. They do still have the rebates listed on their promotion page and the support stuff is there, so maybe it was a goof as they did an update? On the other hand, the download library has an inactive link to a pdf file called 3 CCD Product Comparison Chart dated 5 July 2005. Perhaps a new camera with a different sort of sensor is about to fill that blank spot in the pro line up?

Of course, this is all speculation more suited to Area 51 -- unless someone is now able to say something official???? Canon people have been previously quoted as saying they'd be releasing an HD camera of some flavor this summer, but no details. Guess we better keep a close watch!

Check this link. It shows all the models...

Must be doing some site maintenance.

Travis Andersen July 17th, 2005 07:52 AM

Looks like you guys were right, the XL2 is back up. Thought this could have been a sign of a new camera coming as the DV Expo starts Tuesday in NYC. Thanks guys.

Pete Bauer July 17th, 2005 09:37 AM

Yup, in just the last couple of hours the XL2 standard kit and body only have re-appeared. False alarm!

I feel a little confused about my own reaction to this little incident; as desperately eager as I am to see what Canon has in store for the move to HD, my focus was actually more on how uneasy I felt about the possibility of the XL2 being discontinued so soon...even though I already have one!

Maybe I'm too emotionally attached.

even if they were remvoing the XL2 from their new line, they wouldn';t remvoe it from the site. the GL2 is still there.

Pete Bauer July 17th, 2005 03:14 PM

The GL2 is also a current camera -- really don't expect either the GL2 or XL2 to go out of production real soon, but simply be joined by a must-have HD camera! (Hoping, anyway!!!)
