Ultimate Dvd Or Book On Xl2?

I was wondering if anyone has released a DVD or Book yet that covers every aspect of the XL2 in detail, along with sugestions of settings, tweekings, etc...? Giving examples of best settings under different conditions, locations, exterior, interior shots.... etc..etc...etc...

Would be great if there was one or the other. I'd be first in line to buy whether it was a DVD or book.

Hi Joseph,

DVcreators.net produced a 30 minute XL2 Feature Tour. The compressed video is online in the DV eStore Theatre. You will need QuickTime 7 to view the content. Click below in my sig to get there...by the way, you're in Everett, WA.... we're right down the hill.

Well Hey Neighbor :) Good to hear from someone in this part of the woods so to speak. I did view the 30min. tour you spoke of. Really liked it. What I would really love to see is even more indept. I know that's probably asking for a lot to be handed to me in a one stop kind of resource.

We're in pre-production for a short we're going to be shooting in a few months or so, and this will be the first time I'm going to have the opportunity to shoot with the XL2 with full lighting set-up. I've only had the pleasure of mostly using it with some makeshift lighting for interior shooting, or natual lighting for exterior shots.

I'm in the midst of doing my homework to get myself up to speed with the XL2 as much as possible. We're planning on shooting 24pn with no plans of transferring to film. Just attempting to enter into festivals what will project DVD or tape.

Thanks for your reposnse by the way.

My suggestion would be to shoot the heck out of the camera for a couple of days before "the big shoot." Maybe consider participating in the DV Challenge, it just started today. One of the prizes we are donating is a Canon Optura 50 with BeachTek DXA-2S. You'd be able to just walk in here just down the road and pick up your prize if you win...come on it's a challenge!

Thanks Guy. I'll check into your contest. And thanks for the sugestions.

Actually, it's not our contest (too much work for me lol). It's DVinfo's Challenge http://www.dvinfo.net/conf/forumdisplay.php?f=100

We're just happy to kick in a few grand prizes to get folks motivated to get off their couches and produce!

It's all talk until a project is "wrapped." You learn something new everytime, and hopefully learn from your mistakes. It's all about further mastering your tools and developing your skillset so you can produce consistantly "excellent" results. Just like any sport, it's practice that makes perfect. Those NBA shooters spend years training, but they can produce consistantly excellent results.

Hopefully someone does come out with a DVD or book on the XL2, but for now, I'd say the best way to learn how to use it is to just shoot, see what it can do, go back and review the tapes and see what you can do to improve the footage.

Good luck,

I purchased the DVD "The Ultimate Guide to the Canon XL2" and found it to be pretty comprehensive. Greg Salman goes through every menu item with explaination. Some are pretty short but most are helpful.

thanks to all. I'm about to purchase the XL2 DVD. And there's another DVD I've seen on the internet about ligthing for Digital video called "Enlightenment", or something like that. Looks like it could be promising. I think all the visual examples were shot with the XL2. Although I might be have to be corrected on that.

Joseph,

DV Enlightenment by DVcreators.net is very good for a quick guide to effective lighting. I bought it a few weeks ago and have watched it several times.
