Short Learning Time

Well i finally ordered my XL2 after 2 years of debating and I am the most excited. Anyway i am going to be shooting a live performance in a club setting (dim lights, colorful lights going everywhere and all that jazz) and i am wondering what settings have worked well for other xl2 users in similar conditions. Its gonna be tough as I will only have about 4 days with the camera before the shoot. But let me tell you I am extremely happy to finally get this thing. Any help at all will be much appreciated. By the way i will be using the standard 20x lens. Much thanks again.

Congrats on getting the new camera. I have done some club shooting. For broad cover shots, use 30P, wb to 3200. Note that autofocus will be unusable in low light conditions. For close ups, I have a small on camera light to add a little punch and override the colored lights for the performer's faces and instruments. Note on close ups. You need to be physically close up not zoomed in or your light won't have any effect.

Also, you should download the BlueBarn presets software and the presets that are here on the forum. They are free to you as a DVINFO member.

good luck,

Mike, Ah, a fellow Michigander. I'm originally from Grand Rapids. Congrats on the new purchase! I just shot a very low light scene for my short with my XL2.

I used -3 gain, 24p and used the tungsten setting for my wb. But since I've never shot in a dark club (with my XL2), I will defer to Greg. I believe he is right about the 30p being better in low light.

Thanks a lot guys. I will have no idea what settings are good since i wont have much time to play with them but I will for sure follow your advice and i trust that you have plenty of experience. Thanks a lot for the help, wish me luck.
