-3 vs. 0 gain XL2

Dumb newbie like question, but I have to know. With adequate lighting would the -3 gain level produce less noise than 0 level? What is the purpose of the -3 gain setting?

Hi Joe,

A quick search of the XL2 forum found these threads (among others):
http://www.dvinfo.net/conf/showthread.php?t=38278
http://www.dvinfo.net/conf/showthread.php?t=39253
http://www.dvinfo.net/conf/showthread.php?t=55557

Gain is also under extensive discussion in existing threads in the XL H1 forum so you may want to search there as well. Since the manufacturers generally don't share their technical secrets, we probably will never get in-depth how-they-do-it explanations, but rather end-user observations, as in all the linked threads.
