Colors Shifting

Hi All,

Today I noticed something very strange and it's the first time I see it happen. I was filming today and as I filmed I noticed the colors on my XL2 where shifting. The whites would shift into a nasty brownish color and everything got a little darker and then it would shift back to normal and it looked gorgous. Has anyone experienced these problems? This is the first time it's happened and I haven't filmed anything since, but has anyone else experienced this?

What could be the problem? Is it my XL2 or is it just some settings that I didn't adjust?

If it helps any, I'm a one man camera crew so I can't white balance my camera so i always just try and set the white balance as close as I can get it to the real thing ith the white balance knob. Could this have caused the problem?

I had the same thing happen

I was shooting a hockey game with DVX100B and the same shift occured - about a 6 second cycle from normal to darker and back.

I looked for something automatic, but haven't found anything.

did you solve this mystery yet?

Hi Robert and Roger. Were you filming under electric lights? If so, you can try setting the camera to Tv mode at 1/60 shutter or slower. I've seen this effect before when using Av mode, and I think it is due to colour shift in the lights as the AC lighting supply voltage cycles from null to peak and back again, and the lack of sync between the shutter and the lights. There have been several posts on this subject in the past so a search would probably turn up more info.

Richard
