24 Advanced for the festivals circuit

We are working on a doc film to hopfully debut at film fests with final distribution primarily on DVD. A classic run for a well recieved feature doc.

Should we film in 24p standard or 24p advanced? why?

Doesnt matter... you will hear opinions on both sides... both valid. Your doc will not live on film or in a theater, it will live on DVD. If it gets into Festivals it will be based on content, not whether you shot it in 24P or 24PA. Most festivals will take digital now, some you must convert to HDCAM or DigiBeta but this is easily done. The only thing I might advise against in this situation is 30P which can be a pain for PAL conversions and in the unlikely event of a film bump... can be problematic.

I just shot a project quite sucessfully with the 24pn setting on XL2. Looked really nice. Only drawback I noticed is when we letterboxed for DVD via DVD Studio Pro, it caused a little interlacing problems when projecting the DVD. Didn't notice any interlacing problems when keeping it the native 16:9 and just resizing the image on a projector for widescreen.
About to experiment with 24pa. I'm curious as to whether I'll still get a problem with interlacing when applying letterbox. I know that the image will probably soften up a little when going to DVD...but I'm hoping the image can stay clean like the original footage.
You might want to take some test shots to see if you run into any drawbacks with what ever end result you're looking to acheive.
