Desperately seeking supplier for spare 20x and 6x lens caps
Hi guys,
I've managed to lose my lens caps for both my 20x and 6x lenses for my H1. Have spoken to a whole load of people on Canon helplines, including the Broadcast Support guys, all of whom have pointed me in circles which eventually led to dead ends. I'm in the UK but at this point I would take a spare cap from Australia! Does anyone know (ideally) someone I can talk to or (almost as ideally) the part numbers? Would the Canon stills lens caps fit? And which sizes would I need? Many thanks! Ed Moore Head of Production, Fullrange Media |*www.fullrange.co.uk Direct line: 07980 524136 |
I don't know where you can find a genuine Canon lens cap, but there is no reason to try to find an original one when a replacement will work even better. Tamron's lens caps, in specific, have big central grips in addition to the outside grips that make them much easier to use when the lens hood is on.
If you're trying to find the cap to boost your resale value, I highly doubt that it will be anywhere near the cost. I recommend using a generic or alternate brand lens cap, as long as they match the filter size on your lens, it should work fine. I use generic lens caps on my XH A1. The 6X has a 82mm filter; here's a list of 82mm lens caps. I highly recommend the Tamron lens cap for $10.00. Here's a no-name 82mm lens cap for $12.00. The 20X lens has a 72mm filter diameter. Here is a list of 72mm lens caps at B&H. |
Fantastic, Daniel - thanks. Wasn't sure whether the Canon ones were 'special' in some way. Not reselling, just protecting!

Is it possible to find rear lens caps as well?

Jonas,
Rear lenscaps will be much tougher as its a specific EF mount. I would look for camera rental stores and repair shops and ask them. Cheers WeeHan |
Canon - for spares ?
Hi Ed,
Had the same trouble with Canon UK. I wanted the three screws to mount the power adaptor plate - and got quoited £7 plus postage and packing. I have found out they are M4x5 which I presume means 4mil thread and 5mm length. I will wait until I can find a packet of them in a hardware store. I took me 2 weeks of ringing around through Canon to get nowhere though. Dave |
