is the evf really this bad??

hey guys,
just bought an xlh1 knowing there were issues with the evf. I used it for 5 weeks in africa and it was fine in most cases when you get used to it. my main concerns came when i was shooting night/ low light scenes. when it was telling me im properly exposed i could see nothing but a black screen. when i captured the footage it was exposed alright but its an issue not being able to see my subject, especially bird flight stuff!
tried messing with the evf settings but not much improvement at all. Anyone know if ive made a cock up somewhere, does it sound like a problem with my cam or do i just have to live with it? cheers for any help,
Sandy

Sandy,
This doesn't sound right to me. The majority of complaints are with the inability to focus because of the low rez LCD, and also the possibility of a slight delay in the viewfinder if you are shooting in one of the progressive modes.

I don't generally find that the exposure is off so I think you may need to calibrate your LCD with a good production monitor to assure yourself that it is set right.

Or, maybe but not likely, there is something wrong with your EVF.

Good Luck.

I agree. This sounds strange. If itīs so dark I canīt see anything in my viewfinder I certainly donīt have correct exposure. Itīs hard to judge focus though, but it has never been too dark

In the EVF settings menu you can change the brightness. If the brightness is far on the leftside, this things can happen at night. But if you shift it to the right, it should not be a problem. I would advise you to contact Canon.
