Orange hue to flesh tones
I am using XLHD1 and always white balance manually against a grey card after lights are up to temp. More often than not I still get a light orange (and a bit yellow) from skin. This is indoors using soft boxes. I am unsure where to dial in compensation for the color or how to use any flesh tone adjustment. Help appreciated.

I'm not sure what an XLHD1 is, but I'm assuming it's an H1, H1a or H1s. At any rate, you should create a custom preset. Within the controls for that preset you can adjust the color matrix (reduce red a notch, blue up a notch, etc.).
Canon cameras have a tendency to be a bit orangey out of the box. I would also try using Stephen Dempsey's Panalook preset. You can download it from this site: http://www.dvinfo.net/conf/canon-xl-...d-library.html It seems that there's a pattern here. Most people who get their cameras right out of the box always seem a little disappointed. And then they discover the custom preset feature. They start adding Cine Gamma, Black press, adjust the pedestal a touch, turn down the Red gain two points, the Blue gain up one, the Green gain up one... and then they fall in love. |
Or you could just shoot a little chart off the top.
That would give you a reference for color correction in post. |
