Time code? How does that work?

I've got an XL H1 and it has the time code BNC on the side. Does the camera generate the code or just accept it from a code generator. I'm looking hard at DVR's and the Tascam HD-P2 has a time code port as well. It would be awesome to sync them. The Tascam isn't THAT much more expensive then the other DVR's I had been looking at. If I had to add a generator or other things though... It's not worth it to me.

Yes - this port on the original can send or receive timecode.
The second generation "S" had the timecode built into the HD-SDI jack.

So, to sync my video and audio with that DVR, all I would need is a BNC cable? My XLH1 is an original.

Hi Paul-

Yes, assuming your recorder has a standard BNC connector for Timecode syncing/slaving, then all you need is a BNC cable.

Hope this helps,
Michael
