yeah... how 'bout some uncompressed footage too! Anybody have 6 million gigs of storage space?

Chris Hurd September 15th, 2005 09:57 PM

I asked about that. The official answer is, they just announced this thing, and now they're going to get to work on getting some sample stuff ready for distribution. There were two samples playing at the Canon Expo... a 60i collection of beauty shots from Florence Italy, and a 24F "watchmaker's shop" documentary shot in upstate New York. I bugged 'em about making that available, and they told me they really haven't slept in awhile, but they'll get to it very soon.

It's very understandable Chris. If they do post that material, I very much look forward to seeing it. Maybe someone could at-least give us a review of material they viewed.

Chris, did you say something about posting an avi of some sort? What is that?

Again thanks Chris for posting what you have and thanks for the gallery. The H1 looks awesome. Say hello to Joe B, Mike Z, and Tim S, for me if there around.

I tried to get them to record some footage on a MiniDV tape today, but the guy half-jokingly said he'd have to tackle me before I got out of the convention center.

And I'd comment more on the video images I saw, but they were running HD-SDI straight to HD monitors, so the only thing I can say is that's it's absolutely stunning.

Fyi: They had some the XLS H1's hooked up to Canon's prototype 36 inch SED screens. (think advanced LCD but based on CRT technology). I was blown away, no streaking or ghosting when panning, and it's as bright/luminescent as a CRT. Quite a treat, still a prototype but stunning. This is the display technology to beat in the next coming years IMHO. The OLED screen technology for handheld devices is also amazing.

Yeah, they won't let you put a tape in, they want to release their own video on their own terms. Maybe you can later on down the road at the next show, but the first XL H1 video samples on the web will be from Canon.

I have only a PowerShot movie clip made on the floor by pointing at a monitor. May not be worth posting. I'm beat... heading home tomorrow... then to Dallas for the weekend with family... will have a lot more on Monday.

What was your impression of this footage Chris?

Was it HDV or captured via HD-SDI?

Thanks
