Rain/snow protection for XL H1

Hi Guys,
I'm still trying to decide which camera to buy. However, if I'm going to spend $9,000 for an XL H1 and live here in Upstate, NY I will want to protect it from the elements. Anyway, I e-mailed ewa-marine after looking on their website ewa-marine.com for a rain cover for the H1, and found one for the XL2. They e-mailed me back and said That the VC-XL2 cover is fully compatible with the XL-H1. Has anyone used this cover yet, and if so, what is your opinion of it. The reason I posted this thread here, is I haven't seen this addressed here yet for the XL H1.

Hi Ray, the XL2 and XL H1 share the same body and external measurements. Anything that fits the XL2 will fit the XL H1. See this article:

It applies to the XL H1 as well.

Any ideas if CAMKOTE have an australian dealer?

Ray - The soft plastic Ewa is OK if you are using the cam in shallow water or need it as a safety net if working from a boat etc, but I think that a pro raincover such as the Kata Raincover will be more useful if you just want to protect the XL H1 from rain etc. I've used the Kata in heavy storms and it works great.

A compact raincover for the XL-H1, look here:

Large Pro raincovers look here:

Tony, Do you know if Kata make a camera glove for the XL H1 or one that might fit it?

Chris and Tony,
Thank you very much for the information. Ray

Ashley, here are the Kata range of 'Body-Glove' protection covers:

http://www.kata-bags.com/category.as...d=1&ProdLine=1

I don't think that they ever made a body glove for the XL1/s/2, and considering that the H1 is of a similar size and shape, I expect that they will not make one in the future (but hopefully I'm wrong).

I use the the Kata CRC-11 (RC-11) rain cover. It can sometimes be a pain to take on and off, but it does offer superb protection in a downpour.

One word of note: part of the cover also enlcoses over the short Canon camera-mounted shotgun mic, but I've found that if it is enlcosed inside the raincover it will pick up some of the XL tape mechanism noise, so it is far better to leave the front of a shotgun mic (I use longer AT mics) poking outside of the cover, or even better to use a wireless/radio mic system when using the Kata rain cover.
