red and green fringes

Hi,

I've spent the last month or so following this forum and downloading every sample clip I can get.

The vast majority of them display unacceptable red-green fringe problems on high contrast areas around the edges of the frame.

Its almost as if the channels are misaligned but the effect is not in the same direction on opposite sides of the frame so that can't be it.

This is seriously letting down what seems to be a great solution in most other ways.

Does anyone know if Canon are addressing this problem ?

Cheers

Geoff

Before you get too hung up over fringing on the H1 lens you should take a look at this thread...

or try to get hold of a copy of High Definition Magazine. They tested a whole range of top end HD lenses costing between $30k and $90k and they ALL sufered from large amounts of fringing, much like the H1 and all of the other small format HD cams.

The h1 lens produces some chromatic aberration as do all lenses. It is a great challenge to remove this especially from lenses with high zoom ratios. Quantitatively I found the CA to be not so bad. From a previous post: "The point spread functions for red and blue were separated by 0.67 pixel and the edge was about 872 pixels out from the center (near the edge of the frame). This yields a CA of approximately 0.08% which is right on the border line between "Low. Not visible unless you look for it" and "Moderate. Somewhat visible at high print magnification" (according to Imatest, an outfit that makes software for measuring CA"
