H1 lens on XL2?

Just to throw a wrench in the mix, does the HD 20x work on an XL2?
anyone been brave enough to try it yet?

I realize if it works you will lose features like focus/zoom presets etc.
Do you think there would be any difference in quality?

just a hypothetical

Actually Brian, you won't. That functionality is built into the lens and not the camera body. Besides, the XL2 20X has focus and zoom presets. I even took the XL2 20X and attached it to my old XL1 back when I first got the XL2. Guess what... focus and zoom presets worked. The only limitation is that you didn't get the yellow indicator for zoom preset position in the XL1 vf but it functioned properly.

And yes, we stuck the H1 lens on an XL2 at the Texas HD shootout.

Greg - did you actually notice much visual image difference between footage captured using both SD and HD 20X lenses bayoneted to the XL2?

A second question: Did you notice much difference in handling performance and image quality of footage shot with the H1 using both SD and HD 20x lenses (in both SD and HD modes)?

I guess most of the answers to my questions are in the Texas shootout. I have looked at it once, but can't find it again. Chris, do you have a link to the Texas shootout?

Chris Hurd July 25th, 2006 12:46 AM

Not yet on DV Info Net, Tony... but a big compilation is on its way... meanwhile the best Texas Shootout article to be found is from Adam Wilt over at www.dv.com -- you'll need to register there but it's free.

Thank you, Chris.
