LANC Follow Focus

How does LANC control focus? Does it have specific focus values or does it just have a focus+ and focus- signal? Mainly, can an electronic follow focus be made for setting a specific focus point, or am I just stuck with focus+-?

Mainly looking for something like this for XL-H1:

HI it is just plus and minus, there is no command to tell the lens to move to a specific setting.

Darn

Does anyone have experience withe the chroziel follow focus for the H1? does installing stops really make it work correctly, or does speed of the ring play into the setting as well?

I use the Chrosziel regularly with the H1, although mostly with the 16x manual lens.

I do use it with the 20x as well (for which you must buy a $160 ring!) and it works well, too - but the degree of rotation between, say, 20 feet and infinety is so slight that it is somewhat difficult to get used to.. it's WAY better than trying to manual focus that damn lens with your fingers though... (the small gear wheel on the FF unit reduces the ratio)

The "stops" (of which there are none for infinety or 3 feet, so it's really "marks") are marginally repeatable... and the scale on the Chrosziel DV version is visible from the eyepiece, so you can do your own follow-focus in a pinch...

Brian, you're close by, so if you're ever in the Monterey area let me know and you can check it out...

Thanks Steve,
Im in Monterey quite often actually. If you ever make it up to santa cruz, you should come by our facility, the Digital Media Factory (www.digitalmediafactory.net)
We are working on a feature right now with the H1, capturing uncompressed 10 bit with a blackmagic multibridge pro.

I noticed on 16x9's site that the chroziel follow focus has optional 'stops' that you can click on to the add on ring that will create physical stops.

I also thought that I read that canon console software operates the focus controls. does this do it on a numerical basis or still just +-?
