Playing Canon 60i footage on Sony HDV decks

Does anyone else have trouble playing their Canon 60i footage on Sony decks? I've tried two different Sony decks... the SONY HVRM25U and the
Sony M10U... both displayed the time code and audio, but the video would just play intermittently and freeze randomly. Playback on the XLH1 is fine and the footage also played on a Sony Z1 camera. This is my second camera and it is brand new. (The first was replaced by Canon for different problems.) I really want to like this camera, but I need compatibility. Thanks for any advice.

I haven't had any problems so far, but I haven't run much footage through my M20u. The Z1u has (as I understand it) the same guts as the M10. So if it plays on you Z1, it SHOULD play on your M10. Odd that it doesn't.

I've played loads of XL-H1 tapes on Sony M15s without any trouble. Don't have an M10 or M25 to test with, but the 15 has been great.

Sounds like you're running into tape dropouts or something - have you tried a few tapes?

I think it's a head alignment issue. I have the same problem w/ my XL2.

RW is correct. You should have Canon check out your camera because it sounds like it is out of alignment. This crops up from time to time. You probably have the same problem in DV as well as HDV.

Bingo, that is exactly what the issue is. That crops up from time to time also when going from brand to brand. For example, my Pana-made tapes will not always play back smoothly on a sony deck, and will never play back on my company's JVC. Playback head alignment diffrences are the likely culprit.
It's been my observation that usually Sony decks will play back Sony cam-made tapes with no problem, Pana decks same with Pana cams, etc.

Thanks

Thanks everyone. I'll send the camera back to canon for alignment. If that doesn't work, somebody will get a good deal on an XLH1 on Ebay!

HI,

Check my thread out on the thin black line forum about this issue, you will find its an aleignment problem with the canon

I can play 60i, but not 24f on any Sony HDV deck, but I never tried 30f, sorry!

That's (I think) is due to the way Canon captures 24F, save for Canon's HDVs, there aint a deck on the planet that understand that "F" code.

Heath McKnight March 19th, 2007 09:49 PM

And Canon doesn't make a deck. I'll bet someone will make a deck that supports the "F" setting.

Did you play it back on a Sony HDV deck or a Canon HDV camera?
