Shooting a Time Lapse with XL H1

I am a new user and I cannot believe there is no interval feature on the XL H1 to shoot time lapses and when I called Canon, there Console Software only supports PC and NOT MAC.

Can I use Final Cut Pro to create a time lapse OR is there software that I should get for this? (for XL h1 or XH A1)

Daniel,

No HDV cam has a native intervalometer. It's an HDV GOP thing. The local FCP/H1 guru is Barlow Elton. He probably has done it. You might try the search function on this forum.

How about firewire out of the camera into a mac powerbook running iMovie and capture in timelapse mode

The pro version of the FireStore FS-4 portable hard disk recorder will support single-frame intervalometer recording. It's probably your best bet for doing time lapse projects.

Daniel,

I shoot HDV timelapses all the time. You can't do super-long intervalometer lapses, but it's easy enough with just a simple DV tape to record HDV 24F for up to an hour, capture, and speed up to whatever percentage you choose in FCP. The NLE will skip frames to whatever speed you want.

Try shooting a scene for 45 min, capture, and then speed up 3000 % in Final Cut. Make sure to uncheck the "blend frames" option and the program will just skip frames and give you an interesting timelapse effect.

Here's an example: http://homepage.mac.com/WebObjects/F...cty=US&lang=en
