BP-950G Failure
 
I know this has been discussed previously. I have two 950G that went from full function to dead over night, no slow decay. Has anyone had luck with Canon service getting batteries replaced under warranty? Mine are a couple of months past one year, but dang, these are expensive to only last one year. The two that died are the ones that I have used the least.

While I'm not sure what Canon's warranty guidelines are for batteries, I have to say that the four 950's I own have been the most amazing batteries.

Of course, I might say something completely different if two of them up and quit on me.

They were amazing until they wouldn't take a charge. No slowing down or slight decrease of performance. Full function one day, totally no charge at all the next.
The charger shows a constant light as if the batt was fully charged, but the camera won't turn on at all. Totally no juice. Very sad.

If you don't mind getting your hands dirty, so to speak, and have the appropriate weapons of destruction to hand, you may find, once you have seperated the top casing from the base plate on the battery, that it is simply a failed connection within the battery itself.

I had the same thing happen with a brand spanking "knock off" battery (not as expensive as the real thing but still not inconsiderable) and curiosity drove me to dismantle it. Yep, broken connection. Fixed it and it's still going strong 2 years later.

They are, however, sods to dismantle.

We had a Canon battery (950) die after 7 months. We only used it a few time...(we use an Anton Bauer on the camera). I couldn't believe it either.
Wouldn't take a charge.

I called our dealer...and they got in touch with Canon. I had a new battery in 1 week.

If you bought your camera from a "box house"...you might not have the same luck....but having a receipt should help.

I think our advantage was the dealer had the record of when the camera was purchased...and told Canon the story.

I received my batteries back from Canon Repair in Irvine, CA. Note "Canon Repair does not repair batteries."

I have called my dealer and they are contacting their Canon rep. I'll let you know how that goes.
