On Camera Light for XL1s
 

Hi,

I am looking for a solid mountable on camera light for my XL1s. Nothing too fancy or cheap. If I can have the option of hooking it right into the power of the camera - that's preferrable vs. the standard 4-pin XLR or cigarette lighter (although, that's OK too).

Any recommendations would be helpful. I'd rather not spend over $200 (hopefully less).

PAG Lite C6 runs at about £130 so under the $200 or there abouts...depending on exchange rate.

doesnt run on cam battery...but has its own power pack and runs for about 1 1/2 hours...or longer on a lower setting, I was told at camera convention by the company themselves.

Have you looked at the Frezzi micro fills?
I'm looking for the same type of thing for my XL1s.
I'm leaning toward the Frezzi becuase of the options that are available. Barn doors with CTO filer, dichroic filter, diffuser and soft box.
B&H is selling a kit system for $550, you can get the light only for $170.

Just for your information, I bought the Lowel I-Light.

This was done because I needed the light quickly and this is the camera light my dealer had in stock.

Worked fine on my first shoot, but I will need to invest in some accessories for it.

I'll keep you aware of how it works.

Bescor also makes light options for the XL-1S. I picked mine up from B&H photo out of Nueva York with two battery packs. Fairly inexpensive, with barn doors and the light is switchable (40-80 watts). The battery packs last about an hour on a full charge, so get two.

Im also interested in getting an on-camera light for my XL. Im looking at BH right now, and the VS-65PRB Light and Battery Kit from Bescor seems good. Would it be worth it getting the MPL-635 and then getting the PRB-154XLRA battery belt on the side? I know the price is higher, but Im betting the quality/battery time is better. I've looked at Pag, and others, but they seem a bit small for the XL-1. I need a light that can wash an entire room, yet is still mounted on the camera. Thanks.

If you can afford to go with the belt, i'd do that. The little clips that the bescor battery packs come with are a pain to get on and off when the juice runs low. I probably need to pick one of the belts up for myself one of these days.

I neve had that good a luck with Bescor Electrolyte batteries. All five of the ones I'ce had have fail within 8-10 months.
Go Lith or Ni-Cad if you ca afford it.

Is there a big advantage to get a light with dimmer capabilities? I would think that this is extremely advantageous.
