Watchdog Site Updates

Chris, it would be helpful if you could change the "updated" date located at the top of the menu frame on the www.dvinfo.net site whenever you update pages. I usually enter through that URL and check that date to see if anything is new. Since it still says 30 Nov 01, I didn't realize you have added articles and other content.

Just a thought.

You're quite right, Ed, and I appreciate the heads-up. The DVinfoNet site had a mild update about a week or so ago with the addition of Rob Lohman's articles. I need to get his article descriptions fleshed out and add a few more pieces from Pappas and some other folks and then it'll be a "real" update. Trying to juggle that and some other stuff, with NAB looming on the horizon. Thanks,

Chris,

For what it's worth...if you add the following code to your page

<!--#config timefmt="%B/%e/%Y"-->
Page last modified on <!--#echo var="LAST_MODIFIED"-->

...then any time you upload it, it will show that it's been updated. No need to do it manually.

I'm having a little bit of trouble with this system too. A lot of
pages have the wrong update date etc. This might be interesting
thing to automate indeed. One thing I would really crave for is
a news page that show up directly when you go to
www.dvinfo.net. THis page would show which sections have
been update, it is very hard to track changes on the site in
its current form. We have the following sections (if I am not
mistaken):

- General articles
- The Watchdog
- The son of a Watchdog
- VX2000 section

any more? If you would have a news page you could just
add an item when you update something and indicate where
the update is. For example something like:

Wednesday march 20th - The Watchdog - Chris Hurd
There are 5 new articles in the watchdog etc. etc. etc

You get the point. This would greatly help I believe. I did not
even know my articles were online, I just checked some day
and saw they were.

And as previously indicated a lot of dates are wrong. Maybe you
should get someone with you on the site to help you with
updates (just a thought)...

I still appreciate the site very much!

Hi Rob,

I hadn't planned on running a news site, as my friend Jan de Wever at www.abcdv.com already does this and I don't wish to directly compete with him... however, if there's enough interest, we can certainly consider it.

You're right, there are some faulty dates on dvinfo.net. The site is set up with plain HTML and I need to change it over to PHP (well, some very limited PHP but still mostly HTML). The frames are going away permanently. That much is for sure.

I'm still too much of a control freak but if there's enough interest in expansion then I'll consider taking on some help. The problem is that it's all still pretty much a volunteer thing.

Always open to suggestions as to how you want to see this evolve and develop,
