Actual CCD size...
 

Does anyone out there know the EXACT size if the CCD on a Canon XL-1? I am doing a 3-D match move for a sequence I shot on my XL-1. I am using a software called Boujou and need to know the size of the filmback whic, in this case, refers to the size of the CCD. The average filmback size for 35mm is 9.875 x 7.351. I think I need it measured to the thousandths decimal. The 1/3" the manual gives is not going to cut it. Anyone have this info. Have not been able to find it anywhere. Chris any thoughts?

You will only get that exact a measurement from Canon.

For your purposes, how about determining the size using standard optical equations (which I do NOT happen to have at hand). You should be able to get/make some measurements from the physical setup and a captured image; i.e., camera-to-subject distance, subject size, lens focal length, and image subject size in pixels, and then scale.

I agree Don that on most matchmoving software, that might be the approach but in this case and in this software it is good at figuring all that out if you have the important filmback/CCD dimensions. Not sure why but I have friends that use it professionally and say that is the most important part of the equation. I e-mailed Canon and they sent me back the standard 1/3" 250,000 pixel figures you see in the manual. I e-mailed back trying to get them to pass it on to somone that might know those specs. Thanks for the suggestions.

below. Have two different specifications, they are only available in
Millimeters.

Chip size- 6.08 X 5.00 mm

Image area- 4.82 X 3.64 mm
