magic bullet vs frame, etc..
 

What exactly is this interlaced/deinterlaced frame thing? Does the frame mode on the XL1s do the same thing as the magic bullet software?

Should I use frame mode or magic bullet? (I've heard some discussion about this) What would be the difference of one over the other?

if i recall, there is some concensus that frame mode may decease resolution slightly.

give that magic bullet is such an effective deinterlacer, if you have indefinite access to it (or the buget to buy a copy) my advice would be to shoot interlaced and then deinterlace in post (again, provided you have the capacity to) in order to preserve your footage with the most variety of options (in case you ever need an interlaced version)

Keep in mind that magic bullet require A LOT OF TIME to render. Frame mode will give you something very close to true 30p directly from camera. IMO, the minimal loss of resolution is irrelevent if you can avoid the cost of magic bullet and this render time in post.

i have unlimited use of magic bullet, but those slow render times really do put me off... i guess i will just shoot frame mode and use only the looks tool of magic bullet

the slow render time from magic bullet is from the LOOK SUITE TOOL and not from deinterlacing.

my experience has been that it will deinterlace (by itself) around 5x the speed that it renders when i require it to deinterlace and perform color correction as well (actual speed varies as each clip being color corrected will change render time depending on the settings in the correction)

if you are already planning to color correct in magic bullet, deinterlacing in it is of little added extra time.

Adam. why not color correct in your editing program and then bring it into Magic Bullet to do the deinterlacing? This will save time.
