need suggestions to achieve tastefull sharpness

i shot some footage and i was displeased with the way it look on my computer. i noticed that almost all quick movements were very blurry. i would like to overcome this. i'm still new to my xl1. what settings would i need to achieve a tastefull sharp picture? i plan on adding an overlayed gaussion blur in post to soften it up. i believe i was shooting in frame at 1/30.

Shooters who want to achieve blur often shoot with 1/30th or 1/15th shutter speeds. If you don't want blur, shoot in 1/60th, use a tripod, perhaps, with slow panning/tilting used sparingly; along with using other manual controls.

thank you

with 20/20 hindsight i new that the main problem lied in my shutter settings. i also had the camera off tripod. what setting could i use to make even the shoulder mount movement crisp?

Basically the higher the setting (1/60 1/100 1/250 etc.) the less
blur. Do some tests with various settings and see what happens.
There is no substitute for fiddling with the controls yourself and
then reviewing the footage you just shot.

Just stand in the middle of the room or garden and go from left
to right and then to center again. Now increase the shutter and
compensate for the light loss and do it again. And follow that
pattern. Now look the footage back and see what happens and
what you like / are looking for.
