adaptor vs converter?

Hi all,
I recently went to the cavision sight and was pricing some of the products but was unfamiliar with some of the terminology. Can anyone explain the difference between an adaptor and a converter? Is one superior to the other? Thanks.

You know, it can get confusing sometimes. Generally I often hear these things described as wide-angle adapters and tele-photo converters. And yet they're both the same basic type of attachment that screws onto the end of a lens.

Looking at the Cnetury Optics site adapters tend to be partial zoom through, and converters tend to be full zoom through.

However, this logic does not appear to fully apply to their the tele-converter, which is listed as partial zoom through (But the partial zoom thorugh statement may be due to vignetting at wider settings rather than loss of focus. It is full zoom through when used with the Canon 1.6x extender).
