manual lens for XL1s
Looking into purchasing the fujinon manual lens for the Xl1s. I shoot daily on a dvc-pro w/ manual lens for ENG and like to be able to use one w/ xl1. I know I will lose my zoom and stabilizer. Has anyone here use or have used a fully manual lens on the xl1s? I need to know before I drop a grand. thanx

Chris Hurd have one for sale. |
Hey Rob I did a shoot with the fujinon lens it was an event shoot that I never got copy credit or pay for (falling water productions blows...) but I did get to use a fun lens I'll be honest with you I really loved the manual lens, Remember to adjust your back focus and it takes a little getting used to but the results are steller. ANd you don't really lose your zoom you just lose the ability to shoot with one hand.

Thanks for the reply Nick!
Anyone else have any comments about the manual lens? |
Hi Rob,
As already pointed out above, I have one of this for sale in our Private Classifieds section. The price is much less than a grand, by the way. The nice thing about this Fuji lens is that all of the external control rings (zoom, focus, iris) are geared so that you can run the lens remotely if you have the control motors and mounting rods to do it. Optex UK sells a battery-powered remote control zoom motor for this lens and VartiZoom has a manual remote focus controller. So for doing studio-style lens control on a tripod, that's probably the way to go. Hope this helps, |
Hi Rob,
My background includes shooting ENG, and also a DVC Pro cam with manual lens also. When I first switched over to an XL it felt like a toy until I put a manual lens on the front. Though I'm using the 16x, I think you'd be quite happy, and comfortable, with that 14x manual. Mike Avery |
Chris, I responded to your other post about this lens as well. Is it still for sale?
