On Camera Light

Just got my XL1s today and I am in the market for an on-camera light set up. I plan on doing weddings and the like and would like any recommendations for which light system to get. Are dimmers valuable? I've been going through several setups and B&H and cannot figure out which to go for.

Howdy from Texas,

Stay away from the Canon VL10i light. In my opinion, a dimmer is very valuable. I've used a Frezzi with a dimmer, and I believe one of the moderators here, Adrian Douglas, has one. Also look into the NRG Vari-lites with dimmers. You might try a search on this topic, as I know we've discussed these lights before, but it's always worth bringing up again.

I've got the Canon light and it's ok as a fill but only if you are within about 10 feet of your subject. John Locke has the Frezzi, so maybe he will be able to fill you in.

Okay just did a search and Locke's model. Ouch $860....ouch. I'm going to keep looking for a cheaper alternative.
