Battery belt for Frezzi XL-1 light kit

I have the Frezzi MFKIC-XL1 50 watt dimmer light kit for my XL-1. I need to know who sells good battery belts a reasonable prices. Is Bescor a good brand. How big of belt do I really need? Would a 2 battery battery belt work for doing say wedding receptions. The Np-1 battery setup that came with this kit is a money pit joke. I bought 3 of the NP-1's at $100.00 a pop and now realize maybe a belt might be a good investment instead.

Bescor has a good name. I use an NRG battery belt which has been quite good. There are several capacities available. Mine is designed to allow continuous operation by way of patching a fresh belt into the power chain without shutting down. (Something I've never done.)

I too use a NRG belts. Zero problems and they have been used under very extreme conditions.

Any specific models of NRG that anyone could recommend?

John,
Frankly, just get the biggest, most expensive belt you can afford. I believe mine's a 97044-BL. If you're going to be in situations where you will have to rely heavily on this power source it makes no sense to skimp.

Ken,
The NRG belt model you named is 13.2 volts instead of the usual 12 volt belts I've seen. Can you use a 13.2 volt belt to power a 12 volt light without causing any harm to it?

Ken Tanaka February 26th, 2004 09:00 PM

Yes, no problem. The "12 volt" spec is actually just an industry nominal label. The actual voltage delivered to a device will normally vary over time.

Thanks again Ken for your help

you also might consider

the anton bauer kit for the xl1, although due to price you might just want to buy the plate new and batts and chargers off ebay or other place. It also adds a nice counterbalance to the camera for easier shooting....Ive got anton bauer belts and wouldnt reccommend them way to heavy for run and gun,(yeah I know they arent that heavy :) I use them to power lowel pros instead.
