mini mount question

i own a xl1s. i bought a mini mount, but I can't fit the mic onto the tubelike piece of plastic that fits snug onto the mini mount.
if i try to fit the mic onto the minimount without the sliding tube, the mic cannot be secured onto the minimount with the plastic screw.
look here, it's the 2nd picture from the bottom of this page:

We are talking about this thing, right?

Which microphone are you using, the standard model?

Jeff Donald March 4th, 2004 06:37 AM

The screw needs to be tightened only slightly. If tightened too much it will transmit sound and vibration to the mic. I tighten mine only tight enough to keep the mic from falling off. Occasionally I skip the plastic sleeve and wrap several layers of gaffers tape around the mic. This insures a correct fit.

mini mount

I use the standard mic.

Jeff, I guess the sleeve is for thiner micrphones.
I thought of the gafers tape, but I thought since it was specifically made by canon, it would be a perfect fit.
I guess there is not that much to it but to use tape to ensure a snug fit.
Has anyone else used anything else other than tape?
Thanks for the replies Rob and Jeff.

I'm simply posting a reply to the person who contacted me at my personal email. I no longer have that person's email or name so I'm replying to his question.
His question was how well does the mini mount really work.
Well John Doe. It works very well.
I just finished a test and I was quite impressed with the amount of zoom noise that is emilinated by using the mini mount.
At 1st I had everithing too tight wich did not eliminate any zoom noise at all. I thought to my self, there goes another $100 (used).
So as I was puting My gear into my camera bag and I had to take the mic off of the camera as it did not fit with it on the camera.
So I start unscrewing the mini mount off of the cam and I realized that it was too tight.
I loosend it and I did another quick test.
To my surprise, I couldn't hear virtually any zoomm noise.
I could easily say that it eliminated about %90 of the zoom noise.
As the person that emailed me said, "that zoom noise realy sucks"
But with the mini mount it doesn't have to.
Hope this helps Mr. John Doe.
